Book review: The Guardian Angels by Rohit Gore

Book: The Guardian Angels

Author: Rohit Gore

ISBN: 9789381841280

Publisher: Grapevine India

No. of pages: 328

Cover Design: Saurav Das

I’m sure that even if Mr.Rohit Gore had not asked me to review this book, I would have done it in no time. When he said that he has placed an order of his book for me I made sure that I make enough time to spend with the book. I was waiting for this book to hit my door steps and then to my hands for getting explored. After reading it twice I finally landed up reviewing it. The blurb was what attracted me when Mr.Rohit shared the cover page for the first time and it read

The Guardian Angels is the epic and tumultuous story of two star-crossed lovers who weren’t just soul-mates but were also each other’s protectors.
The fates of Adi Mehta and Radha Deodhar are deeply entwined when within days of their first rendezvous they save each other’s lives. Despite their vast sociopolitical differences, they are drawn to an uncertain future fraught with contrasting ambitions, personas and ideologies.
. . . he is the son of a billionaire, she is the daughter of a socialist.
. . . he is quiet and unassuming, she is a firebrand and spirited.
However, the unexplained phenomena ties them forever – whenever they are in peril, they are each other’s only saviors.
Over the following two decades Adi and Radha live through hope and despair, joy and sadness, and try to decipher their relationship. As the truth of their bond is revealed, they must confront the true nature of love, and ultimately, their destinies.

The review:

I should admit that Mr.Rohit Gore has done magic with the back blurb and cover design of this book. The blurb is amazingly written which gives you enough hints for a yet another different love story. The title and the cover design go hand in hand which caught my eyes at the very first sight. The paper quality of Grapevine India has not been very convincing in recent times but this book has got a better paper quality and the best of all is its price, a 328 pages novel for just Rs.125/-

It’s time to talk something about the novel. The story revolves around Adi and Radha and their journey of life which the author has clearly divided into four age groups. The narration changes along the characters perspective and the flow of the story throughout is spectacular without any flaw. Adi and Radha are destined to meet during their childhood days and a special bond brings them close as day’s passes. Their first meet remains unforgettable for both and they never forget to cherish the anniversary of that day every year. Adi comes from a rich background where as radha from a middle class family whose father had unseen dreams. They live in parallel universe with different thought process. Radha being inspired by her father finds herself very interested in socialism. Adi sees himself in the future of Indian cricket until that tragic incident. After that incident his life changes once forever. Radha who believes in density involves in socialist acts which Adi finds useless. The relation they both share is so real and is addressed so well. Both the characters contribute and stand for each other in every phases of life. With so many unexpected twist and turns, the author has made the book very interesting. The climax is what still I am thinking about and stands next to my heart.

This is not a story which travels on a single plot. It has many dimensions and colors. I liked the concept of Radha’s diary and the secret relation that she shares with it. The other few characters in the story move well along with the story. The socialistic activity for which Radha fights for is new and thought provoking. The depth of the story which the author has reached is appreciable. I was able to visualize each scene so well. The maturity of Adi and Radha in each phase was well realized by the writing.

To conclude my review, I would say that Mr.Rohit Gore has given a new dimension for a beautiful relation and has succeeded in giving life to the book. The language he has used is simple and neat which make it easier to live the character. It is surely an unusual love story of two different individuals which I strongly recommend to read. This book is clean throughout hence people in any age group can read. I would give 4.5/5 for this book and it will surely be one among the few novels which I consider to be the best. All the best Mr. Rohit and I wish to read your next novel soon.

Author Interview: Shubham Choudhary author of "My EX fell in love"

Welcome to the Author interview that we have today. Shubham Choudhry author of My ex fell in love talks with us. Thanks Shubham for spending your time in between your busy schedule.

Author Interview

Hello Shubham, Welcome! I am extremely glad to have you on my blog and I hope you have a great time answering the questions.

1)      Tell us something about yourself?
Shub: Well, as you know me from my book already, an engineer and a part time writer. I love to do things the world finds crazy.

2)      How will you describe your book “My EX Fell In Love” in one sentence?
Shub: That's something I've never been asked! Let me try. It's a journey from love to love, via some funny ways and humorous obstacles.

3)      Debutant authors prefers to write love stories. Is it because it is safe? and how did the idea of My ex fell in love creep in?
Shub: I'd be wrong if I say no. But the answer can't be a direct yes either. Yes, debut authors do like to start with love stories. Not because they're safe, but comparatively easier to write. Although you do get a promising market but a true writer won't care about the number of buyers before starting to write. Other subjects like crime fiction etc, require more research which very less people tend to do. Idea of the novel, just one fine day it struck me. I was blogger for a long time and people used to praise my humorous side a lot. So I thought, why not convert that into a book. A vague idea was there, I built upon that and now you can see what it turned into.

4)      How will you relate yourself to the main character (Yatharth)?
Shub: People do tell me they picture me while reading Yatharth's narration. But I am quite different. While Yatharth is a good researcher, I was struggling to pass all the subjects in college. While he struggles to maintain his love life, I've had my fair share! ;) Although there are a few similarities too. Like crazy friends, super cool parents and a good pre college academic record!

5)      This is something I wanted to ask you most. You have made the project work to play a pretty good role in your book, is that your own project work or you did some research on the concept to write about it?
Shub: Ha ha. Well I must say you're asking some questions which I always wanted to answer, but was never asked! Well. I've never done any serious project in my engineering, leave apart doing research on particle physics! As I said I had a pretty good academic record before college, so that time I wanted to go into research in the same field. Although, future had something else in store for me. But I managed to let it out through the book. I did slight research, just to get my facts right. Rest all was my knowledge from school time.

6)      When Shubham is such a good scholar, how did the radio jockeying come into? do you have any plan to work on it in future?
Shub: I used to listen to Radio a lot when I was preparing for JEE. And sometimes I used to fool my friends by calling them and pretending to be an RJ from some random FM station. They told me I was good. The thing got certified when I won the RJ hunt in my college and then on the city level. Currently I am too caught up to do it, but it definitely is in the plans. Someday, for sure

7)      Do you have any plan to write another novel? If so have you started with it?
Shub: Yes and yes. I started with it right when I was halfway through my first one. It was just in an idea stage with a synopsis, until a month back when I started with it's manuscript.

8)      Humour is one of the toughest genre to write and why did select it? You wanted to be different or it was because you are ease at it?
Shub: I think my blog would answer that better. I have been funny since forever. While people say humor is the toughest genre, I find it quite easy to write. Having said that, I'd never want to stick to one genre. The day I feel more confident and matured as a writer, I'd love to try fantasy and crime fiction.

9)      How has your experience been with your publishers? What was the time span of the book having been written and published?
Shub: Leadstart is anything but unprofessional. Not once did I feel neglected, neither was there any delay from the promised timeline. I wrote the book in around 4-5 months. And they took around 4 months in accepting and publishing it. But that's not all you want from a publisher. I do have quite a lot of complaints about their distribution and publicity. But what's past is past.

10)  Who is your favorite author and what are your favorite literary works?
Shub:
  • Wings of Fire: Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam,
  • Memories of Midnight: Sydney sheldon
  • PS: I love you: Cecilia Ahern.
  • Recently, Immortals of Meluha was one book I totally loved!
11)  Do you have any plans to become a full time writer?
Shub: Not now. I have a lot on my plate and more than that, I don't think I am there yet, as a writer. I need to grow, rather evolve into a better writer with time.

12)  What do you like to do when you are not reading or writing?
Shub: What not! I sing. I am a gaming freak! I even develop android and windows phone applications. (I must say this is all I do for timepass, good at nothing :P )
13)  Comment on the present scenario of Indian publishing industry.
Shub: It needs a LOT of improvement. Self publishing is too defamed in our country. A handful of top publishers rule the industry while thousands of smaller ones pop out every day not to give the big fishes any competition but to accommodate the writers who weren't getting published otherwise. This is degrading the quality and not to mention, helping in making the stereotype that every engineer becomes a writer!

14)  What advice do you give for the aspiring authors?
Shub: I am an aspiring author myself. Still, from what I've learned:
Write, not to sell, but because your heart wants to. Compete, not with people, but with your previous best work.

Thank you Shubham it was great chatting with you. All the very best for your future endevours.

Thanks Abinand. It was really nice answering all your questions. :)

Review:

‘My EX Fell In Love’ is a simple and plain story which revolves around a young student that each one of us can relate to. Starting with the cover page of the book, it is good with comic content. The title again well suits the story and it gives a hint about the content. So both the cover page and the title scores full mark. Next to tell about the narration, it is very well narrated which makes you put yourself in place with the character. The language which is simple and clear is a big plus point for this book.

Yatharth, the hero, is an intelligent engineering student who is unlike the usual student character we normally read. He works for his goal but still enjoys his college life with his friends. Sudeep, again an intelligent student, is always dedicated to his work and supports Yatharth in all ways. Vikalp, unlike his two friends, is born to hit on girls but still waiting for his first date. Vikalp’s character adds humour to this book. His lame jokes and thrashing with friends keeps the story alive.

Sanchita, the heroin, plays a simple and elegant role though I felt her character was less expressed. Their love which last for only some time was described short and sweet. The author had made a clear point not to elaborate every scene in detail which is good for a good book. With 204 pages, he has well managed to bring the story alive. Samantha, a friend of Sanchita, entertains with her snub when Vikalp tries to flirt with her.

Though the project part was carried throughout the story, it was well written in needed place without dragging it’s part. After the break-up of Yatharth and Sanchita, I liked the story even more. The usual break-up stories will leave a heavy heart in the readers but this was something differently written. Raunak’s character was well addressed in the story.

To summarize the review, I would say the Mr.Shubham Choudhary has done a wonderful work in writing. This is a kind of book which makes you feel light after reading. Though with a simple story line and simple language, the book scores 4 out of 5. I strongly recommend this book and looking forward for his next work.

You can buy the book from Flipkart.

Happy reading :-)

Book Review: Come On, Inner Peace

Book: Come on, Inner Peace! I don't have all day!

Author: Sachin Garg

ISBN: 9789381841303

Pages: 238

Publishers: Grapevine India

I am the guy who hates sequel, just because I have to wait for it for another year. In that case I have been waiting for “Come on, Inner peace” since 16 months. I was pestering Sachin, for this book so long and he promised me that I will receive Come on Inner peace on June 10. As he said homeshop18 delivered me on time, but it was a defective book. I ordered again and received it during my exams and I had to wait for a while to read it.

Before we talk about the story, first I would like to tell about the cover page. Come on inner peace is one of the books in recent time which has extremely high quality cover and is designed by one of the famous designer Sumit. The cover image and the choice of colour is intriguing and one can easily spot it on shelves of any bookstore. The title is suitably in sync with the cover image and gives a rigorous idea of the plot but the paper quality is bit disappointing.

The book summary itself very different and it says

Samar Garg lost his peace, after his beloved passed away.
Navya Sharma abandoned her peace, in the hands of drugs.
Vandana doesn’t want to let go off her peace, but destiny has other plans for her.
We are all looking for peace of mind. So are they.
An adventure which began at The Ashram, in Rishikesh, becomes one of the most soul crunching journeys ever!
Will they find out what they are looking for? Will they find inner peace?
Will in the process of reading this book, you find out a thing or two about yourself?

As I had read “Never let me go” (its prequel) three times I was clear about the story and I was wondering how the next book is going to be. He had made his readers to wait so long and I would say the wait was worth. Come on inner peace is a book with unique story which will deliver many messages from this book.

The story starts with the examination of Samar followed by his internship holidays. He has strongly believed that he is the reason for the death of Kanika and he is very depressed about it. People around him pass a pity look whenever they see him and that was another reason he has detached from his friends. His mother who was very concerned about him was always with him and was much worried about him. Only friend who wanted to relieve from his depression was Saloni. As a psychology major, she tried her best to relieve him from his depression but everything went in vain. Failing with her attempts she sends Samar to The Ashram at Rishikesh. When he reached the Ashram he tries very hard to meditate but memories never allow him to be at peace. He tries hard to control himself but with vandana’s notorious activity they are asked to meet Swamiji. What does swamji says meeting Samar? Why and how did Navya come into the story? What has vandana got to do with Samar’s peace? What has meth got to do with the story? Will everyone get their peace?  Read the book to know all these questions.

To say about the writing, the book is flawless, intriguing, well researched, beautifully written and unputdownable. On the language front, there were no grammatical errors and I did not find any mistakes and every sentence is well structured. Chapters are structures very well and are full of Mr. Sachin’s minute observations that made characters authentic and real. “Come on, inner peace” is the first book that I read thrice before reviewing and never felt story losing its engrossing character. Everytime I felt more involvement in the story and perfectly synched chapters made the book wonderful read.

To sum-up my review, I must say, “Come on, Inner peace” is one of the best books by any young Indian author. It takes you towards the hope and a better life after a loss of beloved one and the adventure to find the bright side of the life. The book gives a great message to society and the best thing about the book is, literally anyone can read it, because the story is not targeted to any specific age group and it’s clean enough that you can blindly suggest to anyone. Now I should wait for Mr. Sachin Garg’s next work “We need a rEVOLution” for another year. Hope he gives us in a short period and looking forward to read it. I would give 4.5/5 for “Come on, Inner peace” and highly recommend it.

You can buy the book from Homeshop18/ Flipkart/ Amazon.
